Dr Soda champion of inclusive development

Who is Honourable Dr Zhemu Soda? 

Honourable Dr Zhemu Soda was born on June 4, 1974 in Muzarabani, where he completed both his primary and secondary education. 

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA). He was recently conferred with a Doctorate of Business Administration.

His dissertation titled “The Impact of Private Sector Participation In Electricity Generation To Enhance Lithium Value Addition In Mashonaland East Province” is an insightful contribution to Vision 2030.

Before entering public office, he held several senior positions in the private sector, including key roles at The Cotton Company of Zimbabwe and Alliance Ginneries

He is married to Precious Mapfumo Soda and is a proud father of four children – three boys and one girl. Besides being a family man Dr Soda is a farmer of great repute, majoring in both crops and animal husbandry.

Dr Soda is not only an honourable Member of Parliament, he is also a man of faith. An elder in the ZAOGA Forward In Faith since the year 2000.

In Muzarabani North Constituency he is deemed as the glue that brings people of different faith together. His helping hand is very visible in more than 95% of the churches in the form of building materials, boreholes and furniture. He is not selective when helping.

He drilled and solar powered a borehole for Johane Marange church at their regional shrine. As if that was not enough he contributed building material for the construction of various Pentecostal churches. To some he donated fencing material  and to some he donated musical instruments.

He is a trusted foot soldier for our President. He has implemented a number of projects from our President His Excellency Dr ED Mnangagwa. More than 100 boreholes were drilled a solar powered by the President in the constituency with the supervision of Dr Soda. As the foot solder he made sure these were equitably spread across the constituency.

Loved by young and old, Dr Soda has consistently provided soccer kits to the youth for the past four years. It is now a way of celebrating the Unity Day.

Through this youth empowerment initiative all the 38 political districts have been receiving soccer uniforms for the past  four years. This year he has gone a notch up and he is providing netball kits for the 14 wards in Muzarabani North Constituency. These soccer uniforms are always accompanied by soccer balls enough to cover all district teams. Besides providing entertainment, this initiative has managed to reduce drug and substance abuse in the constituency. It has also lowered unplanned pregnancies and early child marriages.

Dr Soda is widely recognised as one of Zimbabwe’s most action-oriented and impactful MPs. His tenure has been marked by visible, community-centred development, driven by a commitment to leave no one behind.

Developmental Milestones

1. Water & Sanitation 

Facilitated the provision of clean water through borehole drilling in most wards

Oversaw the construction of school toilets, promoting hygiene and dignity in rural schools 

2. Education Infrastructure 

Assisted in building classroom blocks  and teachers’ accommodation 

Previously marginalized areas like Kairezi and Chiwenga where students used to learn under pole and dagger now have comfortable classrooms under brick and mortar.

Not only that, the teachers now have decent accommodation and ablution facilities

Donated stationery and sports equipment to local schools 

Health Services 

Supported the construction of rural health posts, ensuring easier access to healthcare services

Nearly every ward in Muzarabani North Constituency now has a health care facility.

This has brought down the mortality rate and has eased the fight against diseases like malaria and HIV as treatment is now close home.

All the new health facilities have accompanying accommodation for the staff.

To top it up most of the facilities now have dedicated water sources and uninterrupted electricity supply due to boreholes drilled and solar power for the facilities.

4. Community Empowerment 

Facilitated Village Business Units powered by solar boreholes, boosting access to clean water and income generation 

Communities praise these projects for transforming daily lives

Besides there is a solar plant erected in Chiwenga area close to the boarder with Mozambique. This is an area which has been previously lagging behind.

Households, shops and schools are now electrified and they have uninterrupted  power supply

There is no load shedding and HDr Soda has facilitated, with the guidance of His Excellency The President Dr ED Mnangagwa, the construction of a base station which is being shared by Econet and NetOne.

Villagers are no longer using Mozambique mobile networks as was the case previously

Social Support 

Pays school fees, provides uniforms and stationery for underprivileged learners 

Schools like Gumbochuma are amongst those which benefited from computers donated by Honourable Dr Soda.

He understands the challenges of the learners since this is the same environment which raised him.

Taking from the President His Excellency Dr ED Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind

Actively supports the elderly and vulnerable groups

Honourable Dr Soda makes it a point that every weekend he is in the constituency unless he would have travelled

This helps him  to solicit the views of the people, hence represent them  with understanding of their needs

Current Focus: Road Infrastructure 

Hon. Soda is now prioritising the rehabilitation of rural roads, especially those that become impassable during the rainy season. His goal is to ensure full accessibility and continued development in all parts of the constituency.

Legacy

Dr Zhemu Soda stands out as a transformational leader whose development footprint is undeniable.

His leadership is impact-driven, people-focused, and grounded in service.

From the youngest learners to the oldest villagers, his work touches lives across all generations.

He has facilitated training of more than 1 500 people in different courses

He negotiated acquisition of provisional drivers licenses in more than six  centres in Muzarabini North Constituency.

He is not just serving — he is shaping the future of Muzarabani North. 

As history unfolds, his name will remain etched among the most hard-working MPs Zimbabwe has ever seen.
