THERE was drama on Tuesday afternoon at Donnybrooke after a suspected land baron was dragged by some of his victims to Mabvuku Police station.
The victims claim they were duped by Lameck Francis Mutede who allegedly sold them residential stands belonging to a housing trust.
At the police station, several complainants reported that they had paid their money to Mutede, after being promised residential stands, only to later clash with Pure Gold Housing Trust and Shelter Zimbabwe, who are developing the plots.
One victim said Mutede had “been reaping where he did not sow since 2024” and “cashed a lot of money from several desperate home seekers from the land where he has no authority to sell.”
Some of Mutede’s victims had built some illegal structures at the site, which is yet to be fully serviced.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
Investigations are underway in the cases which were reported at Mabvuku Police Station under CR286/08/26, CR37/02/24, CR287/02/26, and CR288/08/26.
