ANYONE who has been cheated on, or even had someone close to them cheated on, knows that revenge on the one who strayed is, at least, irresistible.
One woman left Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) and immigration officials at Plumtree Border Post shocked when she flew into a rage and smashed her lover’s phone, apparently as punishment for cheating on her.
Heartbroken and enraged by the revelation that her lover, Wilson Masawi, a doctor in Selebi-Phikwe, Botswana, had been allegedly cheating on her with another woman from the same country, Tafadzwa Eunice (33) Mapuka from Houghton Park in Harare smashed his phone onto the ground.
Circumstances are that on 20 April at around 3pm Mapuka was travelling with her lover Masawi from Botswana to Zimbabwe.
It is reported that upon arrival at the Plumtree Border Post, Masawi handed Mapuka his Redmi Note 12 Pro cellphone for her to use in calculating some transactions while Masawi processed vehicle paperwork at the Zimra counters.
Mapuka then discovered, to her horror, that Masawi was cheating on her with another woman in Botswana. She questioned him about the matter and a misunderstanding arose between them. Consumed by rage, she smashed the phone onto the ground, cracking the LCD. Masawi asked for his phone back and received it. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Mapuka.
For the offence, she appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware charged with malicious damage to property. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to pay a fine of R400 or three months in prison. In addition, four months imprisonment was suspended on condition that she restitutes the complainant the sum of R12 999, the value of the destroyed cellphone via the clerk of court by 31 July. Selestine Madziwa appeared for the State.
