TWO Zifa Southern Region League clubs Blackrock and Jordan FC have been excited by the outcome of the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup draw conducted in Harare on Wednesday.
Hwange based Blackrock were drawn to play against Bosso while Jordan have a date with Gwanda Pirates, a mouth-watering derby likely to shake both Gwanda and Filabusi.
Gwanda Pirates are known for their colourful fans who follow the team wherever it plays while Jordan are the rising stars in the league and are on third position chasing second placed neighbours Talen Vision and leaders Hwange.
The Round of 32 matches have been set for the weekend of August 7-9 countrywide.
Jordan club president Orchard Dube described the draw as fair and declared his club ready for the battle.
“This is a fair draw, we will fight till the end to get to the next stage. Yes they are a good side, we believe we have done enough to compete with any Division One football team. We are ready for Gwanda Pirates,” said Dube whose Jordan FC is expected to travel to Gwanda after they were picked second in the draw conducted in Harare on Wednesday.
Pirates are known for their vociferous fans who have turned Phelandaba Stadium a sea of black and white, added music to the home and away vibe that has caught the attention of many content creators.
Meanwhile, Blackrock’s Clive Chiyembekeza described playing in the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup as an honour to the club.
“First and foremost it’s an honour to host a club like Highlanders at our home ground. They’re a PSL giant with history, but this is football and on the day anything can happen,” said Chiyembekeza whose team impressed with a disciplined defensive display last season, one of the best in the league.
Chiyembekeza said they are not scared of their opponents.
“We’re in Division One but the boys have no fear. We respect them, but we won’t be tourists on the field. We want to make our fans proud and give them a game to remember,’ he said.
Prichard Mpelele the former Highlanders and Hwange utility player is the only recognisable player in the fold.
