THE semi-finals of the Dream Star talent show, former Zim’s Got Talent, will be held in Bulawayo for the first time on Saturday. After having conducted auditions last month where 82 contestants were shortlisted, organisers have split hopefuls into two groups for the semi-finals which will be held in Harare and Bulawayo this weekend.
Super Gieeks, Mitchelle Msopero, Amavilla, Stanley Stanley, Juandez Apongo, Petro Zimuto, Ruth Sibanda, Queen Shamiso, Snippers Crew and Djembe and Elements of Africa will represent Bulawayo where they will compete with other contestants from Kwekwe, Gweru and Masvingo. Queen of Dance, Sandra Ndebele, is expected to join the panel of judges for the semi-finals.
The Harare semi-finals will see shortlisted contestants from Chinhoyi, Chitungwiza and Marondera battling it out with those from Harare.
Now in its second edition, Dream Star, an initiative of the Chinese Federation of Zimbabwe and ZLG, will select 20 people to try out their luck at the finals being held at the Long Cheng Plaza in Harare on October 3.
Lucky contenders performing cultural acts will be selected to travel to China for a cultural exchange programme before the final competition.
Reginald Matinanga, Dream Star public relations consultant, said they were pleased with the talent they were witnessing.
“We want to create opportunities for those talented in any form of art and inspire them to make a living out of their talents in order to create employment,” Matinanga said.
Last year’s competition was won by Harare’s Divine Chitumbura and The Incredibles.
