Semi-finals for the talent search show, Dream Star Zimbabwe, take place this weekend at Longcheng Plaza in the capital and Rainbow Towers Hotel in Bulawayo.
Contestants from Marondera, Mutare, Chinhoyi, Chitungwiza and Harare will battle it out at the Longcheng Plaza while those from Masvingo, Gweru, Kwekwe, and Bulawayo will be at the Rainbow Towers Bulawayo.
In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Dream Star Zimbabwe spokesperson Rumbidzai Matinanga said everything is set for the two semi-finals.
“After going around the country in search of Zimbabwe’s best talent, we are now bringing them together to battle it out this weekend.
“Hundreds of people had auditioned and now we are down to 80 groups and individual acts and I can safely say all is set for the semi-finals that will result in only 20 acts surviving for the finals to be held in October,” she said.
Matinanga added that this year’s event is going to be bigger and better.
“This year (the event) is going to be much bigger since last year we did not tour most of the country’s cities and many contestants were from Harare but this time around we took it from the grassroots level and we toured a total of nine cities and came up with what we can call Zimbabwe’s best.”
Dream Star Zimbabwe was launched last year as Zim Got Talent but had to change the name early this year after one local company, Ke Nako Media, claimed ownership of the title Zim Got Talent.
Last year’s event saw 21-year-old Divine Chitubura walking away $3 000 richer after shrugging off a stiff competition pitting musicians, dancers and magicians.
