THE nationwide talent search show, Dreamstar Zimbabwe, is making a comeback this year after being put on ice by the Covid-19 lockdowns from 2020.
Dreamstar is a nationwide talent search show hosted by the Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation in partnership with the Chinese Federation of Zimbabwe.
The competition has grown in popularity and produced several success stories in the music industry. Dreamstar not only provides a platform for young artists to showcase their talent, but it also offers them the chance to receive training and mentorship from industry professionals.
The auditions will take place in various locations across the country, and contestants are required to submit a video showcasing their talent during the registration process.
The winners will receive cash prizes as well as the opportunity to perform at various events and shows.
The competition is a great initiative that provides a much-needed boost to the arts and culture sector in Zimbabwe and empowers young people to realise their dreams.
Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation (JCMC) managing director, Napoleon Nyanhi, said the eighth edition will be held under the theme ‘Inspire to aspire’.
“We want to look at the journey that Dreamstar has walked and enjoy the wins we have registered in previous years and create something that can inspire young talent to aspire for bigger things.
“Many young people should have their own art and also inspire their communities,” said Nyanhi.
He said they want to identify and groom talent from all corners of Zimbabwe and provide further training and a platform to showcase pure talent and art.
“There has to be a platform to showcase those talents, standing before thousands of people. The idea is to go to communities which are remote, to give them the platform.
“We also facilitate for youths to engage in culture exchange programmes with other countries.
“From July 1 to 25, we collect contestants’ data and videos across the country,” he said.
The first prize wins US$3 000 while the second prize walks away with US$1 500.
Beatboxer, Pro Beatz, won the inaugural Dreamstar Zimbabwe final in 2015.
