Drink of Week: 4th Street’s Sweet Rose, the best drink to celebrate summer

WE are in summer, flowers and trees are in full bloom and the best way to celebrate the warmth of the sun is with friends and relatives over a full-flavoured barbeque and a bottle of sweet wine.

It’s the perfect snifter for the occasion, as it appeals to all age groups and of course genders.

This week’s choice is from the 4th Street brand – the savoury Sweet Rose, a drink that is always ready for the occasion.

4th Street is an African brand that was launched in 2009 in South Africa and has grown to become one of the leading wines in Africa.

With its extraordinary growth, 4th Street is quite a trendy, unpretentious and yet sophisticated wine brand popular among all age groups.

According to African Distillers Limited Zimbabwe Southern region manager Nhlonpeng Ncube the wine is made from high quality grapes sourced from selected premium vineyards that are harvested in the warm months at optimum ripeness to ensure the maximum burst of fruity nectar in every sip.

“Standard winemaking practices are followed to produce both the red and white base wines. Fresh grape juice is preserved, allowing no fermentation to take place. The final super fresh sweetness comes from the careful blending of the light, fruity wine and the full, sweet grape juice – resulting in an easy-drinking, lower-alcohol wine – the best of both worlds,” he says.

With various flavours, the most common and preferred wine from the collection is the sweet rose.

It has a delightful strawberry pink colour that obviously gives you a hint of what is to come.

This wine boasts strawberry aromas and a burst of sweet berry flavours on the palate.

It’s also the perfect picnic beverage that can be had with fresh fruit platters made up of strawberries, watermelon and blackberries.

It also pairs perfectly with various meats. Like any other beverage, well of course  apart from tea and coffee, it is best served chilled.

“4th Street is ready for any occasion, and is the ultimate drink for those whose alcohol tolerance is minimal,” said Ncube.

The wine can also be used to create sassy cocktails for those that would prefer something with a zazz and tingle on the taste buds.

One such cocktail is the “DJs Request”, a sweet and almost spicy cocktail made from Sweet Rose and of course other  ingredients. It contains Pineapple Juice, Raspberry Syrup, Rose Water, Gin, 4th Street Rosé (as required) and raspberry for garnishing.
