POLICE have been commended for arresting, without fear and favour, everyone found producing, distributing and abusing drugs and substances.
Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Tino Machakaire hailed the police at the Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign in Glenview.
He urged people to report anyone regardless of political party affiliation, colour or race saying drug and substance abuse is killing lives, nation and economic growth.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to the organizers for bringing us together to address this critical issue affecting our communities.
“Let me thank police for their effort in bringing all found engaging in illicit drugs to book.
“This time they have shown that no one is above the law.
“With that in mind, I want to urge people to expose all drug bases and drug dealers hiding under the name of political leaders including those claiming to be connected to the ruling party ZANU PF.
“As we gather here today, we are reminded of the importance of working together to build a society that is free from the scourge of drug and substance abuse.
“The government, under the leadership of His Excellency, the President of Zimbabwe Cde Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa is committed to ensuring that our province is developed and improve the livelihood of our people as we journey towards the attainment of Vision 2030,” said Min Machakaire.
Min Machakaire said government is working tirelessly to create an environment that is conducive to economic growth, social development, and human well-being.
Resident Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Charles Tawengwa said police have been directed to take all drug dealers to court instead of fining them.
“We will not have anyone caught in possession of these illicit drugs fined at police stations but instead, all suspects will be taken to court for prosecution as we intensify the fight against drugs and substance abuse.
“Drug dealers are not only corrupting minds of our youth but economic prosperity anyone found described drug dealers as people who are after corrupting minds of their victims as well as the economy.
“We will continue to expose all drug bases in all the surburbs,” said Min Tawengwa.
Glenview South Member of Parliament, Honourable Tsitsi Tawomhera appealed to local authorities to consider building facilities for youth training and recreational facilities.
Glenview based musician Tryson Chimbetu led other artists like prison inmate Chigudo, Glenview based group Majestic Movement, Kuwadzana I High School, Nyau dancers in entertaining guests.
