The second edition of the Zimbabwe Drum Fiesta has been slated for Book Cafe on April 24. Last year the fiesta saw drummers from different genres taking part.
This year, drummers Obert Gomba (from Extra Kwazvose), Denis Mushaishi (Roki), Simba Dembedza (Victor Kunonga & Zimpraise), Ngoni Chikuse Jnr (New Life Covenant Church) and Carlton Mparutsa (Suluman Chimbetu) participate at the show.
Muparutsa, who is one of the organisers said they have managed to secure funds for the fiesta.
“We did not lose hope after we struggled to secure funds for another edition of the fiesta and finally we have managed to put everything in place and the show is on,” said Muparutsa.
Prior to the event, they will start with solo performances before combining with other performers playing other instruments.
“We are happy that these other guys can play different instruments, so after the solo performances we will come together to play other different instruments,” he added.
He said they are currently negotiating with their bosses to feature on the show.
“Last year my boss Sulumani graced the event and he went on stage for a song and this year we are negotiating with them to come and share the stage with us,” he said.
Another drummer who will be taking part on the event, Gomba, was optimistic to make it an annual event.
“If resources permit, we are going to make it an annual event but as it stands now we can only do it when we get the resources,” said Gomba.
