Drunk man stabs cousin to death

A MAN who had one too many allegedly stabbed his cousin to death.

The sad incident happened at Maranga Bottle Store in Zvishavane during the wee hours of 18 February.

It is reported that Tongai Maphosa (21) and Tungamirai Shumba had a misunderstanding while drinking and the latter thoroughly beat up the former taking advantage that he was drunk.

Unfortunately tables turned as Maphosa drew a knife and stabbed Shumba on the stomach resulting in his death.

Maphosa was arrested on a murder charge and he appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Lynn Manyika.

The court heard that on 18 February, the two were drinking beer at Maranga Bottle Store around 1am when a misunderstanding arose. Shumba took advantage of Maphosaa��s drunkenness and started beating him up with fists all over the body.

It is alleged he had a field day as Maphosa was too drunk and failed to retaliate for some time.

Unexpectedly, Maphosa drew a knife and stabbed Shumba on the left side of the stomach resulting in his intestines protruding.

Shumba died a few hours later and witnesses told police what had transpired leading to Maphosaa��s arrest.

The accused was found in possession of the knife and it was produced in court as exhibit.

He was not asked to plead and remanded in custody to 6 March.
