TWO men from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo who stole two Honda fit vehicles, sold one which they later stole from the buyer and sold it again, have each been sentenced to eight years imprisonment.

A court heard that Elijah Ngwenya and Dexter Ngwenya, both aged 24, committed the crimes between May and July this year.

They removed number plates from a car that was damaged in an accident and fixed them onto one of the stolen Honda Fit vehicles before selling it to Mr Tapiwanashe Mupamhadzi for $2 500.

A court heard that they gave Mr Mupamhadzi a fake registration book of the car which had been damaged in an accident.

The duo later stole the car at night, changed its registration number plates and sold it to Mr Nyashadzashe Madamombe.

They took the car from Mr Madamombe saying they wanted to sort out the car’s documents and gave him the second Honda Fit they had stolen worth $3 600 as collateral.

The pair had stolen the second Honda Fit from Mr Mpilo Moyo in Shangani.

The two pleaded not guilty to theft of motor vehicles before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Joseph Mabeza.

Mr Mabeza, however, convicted them due to overwhelming evidence and sentenced them each to an effective eight years in prison.

Prosecuting, Mr Tinashe Dzipe said Elijah was arrested by police at Waverly Sports Bar in the city on August 11 leading to the arrest of Dexter on August 18. — @MondelaC.
