TWO men from Zvishavane have received three-year prison sentences each after being convicted of a violent robbery that took place earlier this month.
Emmanuel Mukungure (24) and Dainley Dayimani (20), both from Chirere, appeared before the Zvishavane Magistrates Court on robbery charges.
On November 1, the victim was at a bottle store at Chirere Business Centre when the two men began to threaten and harass him.
Although another customer initially intervened, Mukungure and Dayimani later ambushed the victim as he walked home.
Armed with a knife, Mukungure held the victim while Dayimani kicked him repeatedly and stabbed him.
They stole US$162 in cash and a Villaon cellphone, bringing the total value of the stolen items to US$222.
The victim sustained a deep cut on his heel and fractured ribs during the assault. After the incident, he reported it to his employer, who helped him file a police report, leading to the arrest of the two men.
In court, the magistrate imposed a four-year prison term on each offender.
However, one year of each sentence was suspended for five years, on condition of good behaviour.
