DUO LOSES US$120K TO BOGUS COPS

TWO men, including a Chinese national, lost US$120,000 to bogus cops in Harare on Friday.

Danver Gumbo, 31, and Zhou Long, 53, of Dongxin Mining Machinery, were handcuffed and lost their money and other belongings to the bogus police officers.

The two, who are based in Kadoma, were in Harare to pay for the machinery which was shipped from China.

They were asked to produce permits by four men wearing police reflector jackets.

The two were assaulted, driven to an unknown place where they were left handcuffed to the seat belts.

They were later helped by a motorist who had a breakdown close to the area and he led them to a police station.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi could not be reached for comment.

However, H-Metro is reliably informed that the case was reported at Marimba Police Station under RRB 6628859 and the total value stolen is US$122, 070 was lost.
