DURATION Gold, who run Vubachikwe Mine are walking with a spring in their step following a decisive court victory against the Lotshe Mining Syndicate, who had unlawfully attempted to invade their mining lease.
The ruling has emboldened the company to intensify its investments in operations.
Just two weeks ago, the Vubachikwe mine faced an invasion when Lotshe Mining Syndicate, granted dubious mining rights, attempted encroachment on their territory. However, local courts quashed these claims last week, reaffirming Duration Gold’s rightful ownership.
“We have great faith in Zimbabwe’s legal system. As anticipated, the courts ruled in our favour, recognising us as a law-abiding entity. Now, we can focus on investing further in our operations to maximise our potential in the nation,” stated Duration Gold spokesperson, Mr Robert Mukondiwa.

Part of the court’s ruling stated, “The first to third respondents and all those claiming occupation through them shall restore possession of a mining location known as Mining Lease 16, to the applicant upon service of this order failing which, the Sheriff is authorised to assist the applicant in recovering vacant possession thereof.” Additionally, the respondents were ordered to cover the legal costs of the application.
With this victory in hand, Duration Gold has commenced the delivery of state-of-the-art mining equipment, including new tractors and self-tipping machinery to support their newly established surface mining project.
“It is remarkably easy to acquire new equipment and invest further in the country when you have the cushion of a functioning legal framework.
“We were never deterred, we continued acquiring new machinery confident that the courts would uphold honesty and lawful occupation,” said a buoyant Mr Mukondiwa.
He added, “We’ve received substantial support from law enforcement. Previously, we dealt with illegal miners, who attempted to take over portions of our mine during a gold rush. We defeated them emphatically along with other rogue elements.
“Those who challenge us know we have the law on our side. We are very familiar with legal battles and navigate them with confidence.”
The resurgence of the Vubachikwe mine has breathed new life into the operation, which was inactive since an illegal strike in 2022. Duration Gold employs 100 workers and plans to expand as operations normalise.
“This is a success story for the revitalisation of Vubachikwe. As we move forward, the community will benefit and we anticipate hiring more workers as needed,” said Mr Mukondiwa.
