Dutch firms explore agricultural investments and trade

Representatives of companies from the Netherlands that are experts in the agriculture sector value chain, are expected in the country next week to explore investment and trade opportunities in horticulture and livestock sub-sectors as European investors’ confidence on Zimbabwe continues to increase.

Relations between the West and Zimbabwe nosedived over the last two decades leading to capital flight and disinvestment in the country, thus negatively impacting on the performance of the economy.

However, it appears relations thawed at the advent of the new political dispensation led by President Mnangagwa, who has emphasized Zimbabwe is open for business and has followed deliberate pro-business policies and strategies meant to enable the ease of doing business as well as kick-starting the economy.

It is against this backdrop that representatives of companies from the Netherlands will visit the country next week, where they have a tight schedule that will see them visiting several agro-firms in the livestock and horticulture business among them Irvines, Koala Park Abattoir, Surrey Group, Colcom and Luxaflor Roses.

The team is also scheduled to have engagements with the Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement Minister Air Chief Marshal (Retired) Perrance Shiri.
