Government yesterday gazetted the legal instrument that allows the importation of essential goods to fight Covid-19 into the country duty-free.

This follows an administrative decision to allow the goods to come into the country without paying duty, while the legal framework was being worked on.

The regulations, which are effective March 30, were contained in Statutory Instrument 88 of 2020 that was published in the extraordinary Government Gazette yesterday.

The previous exemption was from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. The extension was published in Statutory Instrument 89 of 2020 that was also gazetted yesterday.
