Dynamos and stew!

MIDFIELDER Tinei Chatora grabbed a brace from the spot to cap a fine afternoon for Blue Ribbon as they outclassed an out-of-sorts Dynamos in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro yesterday.
Chatora’s late strike, three minutes into added time, ensured that Blue Ribbon ended a winless run of five matches and coach Mi-sheck Chidzambwa could not hide his delight after collecting maximum points against his former team.
The absence of Dynamos’ star player Archford Gutu, who powered them to a 4-1 win over Black Mambas in their previous game, was evident as DeMbare failed to stamp their authority in the game.
Gutu is nursing an ankle injury and watched from the terraces as Dynamos fans, who appear to be running out of patience, expressed their disappointment by hurling insults at the coach Lloyd Mutasa.
To their credit, Blue Ribbon’s pace was simply too much from the onset and they never relented once Chatora fired them into the lead in the third minute.
With a bit of luck and precision in front of goal, Blue Ribbon could have won by a bigger margin.
But DeMbare, who chased the ball the whole afternoon, appeared on course to hang on for a share of the spoils after Denver Mukamba put them on level terms two minutes after the restart.
They, however, had goalkeeper Washington Arubi to thank for a number of crucial saves, which kept them in the game until the death when Blue Ribbon won another penalty.
The best that DeMbare could have got was a draw but their hopes were suddenly quashed when Gift Bello handled the ball inside the box as the Dynamos defenders made desperate attempts to stop the marauding Blue Ribbon forwards.
Referee Norman Matemera rightly pointed to the spot and, by the time Chatora stepped up to convert the penalty for the winner, most of the Dembare supporters had already started walking out of the stadium in frustration.
Their worst fears were realised when Chatora again sent Arubi the wrong way to record Blue Ribbons’ first victory since May 15 when they beat Highlanders 2-1 at Gwanzura.
Their coach Chidzambwa, who also led his Premiership newboys to a 2-0 win against another league giant CAPS United back in April, was naturally elated by the victory.
“It was not about me and Dynamos because I am now at Blue Ribbon.
“I am happy to win because no-one will not draw satisfaction from such a good result. We played very well but we nearly got punished because we missed a lot of chances especially in the first half,” said Chidzambwa.
Blue Ribbon got the upper hand with just two minutes on the clock when left winger Eria Phiri was fouled inside the box following an awkward challenge from behind by Bello.
Referee Matemera blew for infringement and the Dynamos defender was booked for the foul.
Chatora took the responsibility, sending the otherwise impressive goalkeeper Arubi the wrong way from the spot for the opener.
Chidzambwa’s men appeared superior in all departments and could have increased their lead in the 14th minute when Chitora worked his way into the penalty box and released well-positioned striker Mario Mabhacho who, disappointingly, failed to control the ball.
It was Chatora’s turn to miss a good chance two minutes later when he received a good pass from Phiri but the final touch let him down.
Murape Murape fought hard in the Dyna-mos midfield which was virtually non-existent as Blue Ribbon skipper Daniel Kamu-nenga, James Jam, Chitora and Simon Choe-nda seized total control of the flow of the game. Dynamos strikers Roderick Mutuma and Martin Vengesai could not get enough of clean ball as a result.
Goalkeeper Arubi was forced to make a fine save when he tipped over the crossbar a dangerous ball from a free-kick by James Jam in the 50th minute.
The Warriors goalkeeper also dived to his left to stop a ferocious grounder marked for the near post by Blue Ribbon captain Kamunhenga.
The Dynamos supporters whistled for the coach to make changes to the team as pressure mounted on the side to stop Blue Ribbon’s neat build-ups into their area.
Wingbacks Tapiwa Kumbuyani and Clive Boroma were instrumental in Blue Ribbon’s raids from the flanks and Mutasa had to pull out leftback Augustine Mbara to stabilise the game by introducing Thomas Magorimbo.
With scores level at 1-1, Murape the best chance to put Dynamos in the lead in the 63rd minute when goalkeeper Earnmore Hamandishe had left his line in a failed attempt to clear the lines. But the diminutive midfielder crashed his shot against the crossbar with the goal at his mercy.
Dynamos coach Lloyd Mutasa refused to comment after the game.
