Shadreck Nyahwa made history yesterday, becoming the first Dynamos player to score a league goal this season in their hard-fought 1-0 victory over champions Simba Bhora at Rufaro.

His 56th-minute strike ended a painful 754-minute goal drought in the league.

The goal was enough to secure three crucial points for the Harare giants to take their season tally to six points.

The goal was only Dynamos’ second of the campaign, following an own goal in their 1-1 draw against TelOne.

Before Nyahwa’s breakthrough, the last player to score for Dynamos in the league was Namibian striker Sadney Urikhob, who netted in a 2-1 loss to Greenfuel in November last year.

Urikhob has since moved to Scottland where he has now scored twice for the Mabvuku-based side.

Nyahwa, visibly emotional after the match, dedicated his goal to his unborn child, due in August.

“It’s been long time since I scored. I have had chances, but it wasn’t happening,” he said.

“I am happy, and I dedicate this goal to my unborn child. That’s why I put the ball under my shirt during the celebration.”

The win lifts Dynamos to six points after four matches, easing mounting pressure on the squad.

“Collecting maximum points was important,” Nyahwa admitted.

“At a team like Dynamos, fans expect victories, but it’s not always easy. We’re fighting hard as the team blends experienced players with new talent.”
