REIGNING Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions Dynamos have embarked on a hunt for a reliable shot-stopper to replace South Africa-bound George Chigova. The intimidating Chigova is set to join Absa Premiership side SuperSport in June this year where he will team up with DeMbare legend Kaitano Tembo who is one of the technical brains at Matsantsantsa.
DeMbare have three goalkeepers in their camp, Chigova, former Monomotapa goalkeeper who has been Chigova’s understudy, Artwell Mukandi and unheralded Tatenda Mukuruva, an Under-20 international.
Webster Chikengezha, the Harare giants’ secretary-general told Chronicle Sport that the executive instructed the technical team led by Callisto Pasuwa to start the hunt now instead of waiting for the mid-season.
“We have since instructed our coaches to look for Chigova’s replacement because without doubt the boy is leaving us in June and we don’t want to be found wanting,” said Chikengezha.
He denied making overtures on Highlanders goalie Munyaradzi Diya who is reported to have made a U-turn from his initial three-year contract that he had agreed on with Highlanders to just a year.
Tichaona Diya, Dynamos’ goalkeepers’ coach is Munyaradzi’s elder brother. “Our technical guys are yet to report to us but why would I engage Munyaradzi when I know that he is contracted to Highlanders for a year or so,” said Chikengezha.
Late last year Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa denied making moves for any Highlanders players but a few days later, winger Masimba Mambare joined the blue family.
