ON a day the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League burst into life with an exhilarating 24 goals across nine matches, the country’s most successful club, Dynamos, continued their alarming slide into the abyss.
While fans across the nation were treated to goal fests in almost every match, there was only gloom in the Dynamos camp after a damaging 2-0 defeat to Triangle at Gibbo Stadium, a result that leaves the Glamour Boys languishing in 16th place, perilously close to the drop zone.
The irony? Triangle were led by none other than former Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe, who delivered a painful lesson to his old employers with a clinical win that may well prove a turning point for his side, and a nightmare for his former paymasters.
A brace from Triangle was all it took to pile on the misery for Dynamos, whose continued goal drought now feels like a grim metaphor for their season.
Not even the presence of former striker turned coach Takesure Chinyama on the Dynamos bench could help stem the tide.
Now, with just a point separating them from Kwekwe United and only goal difference keeping them above Triangle, Dynamos are locked in high level talks to appoint a new head coach as part of a desperate bid to salvage their crumbling campaign.
“We are in a mess, and we can’t afford to make another mistake,” a club insider revealed late last night. “Everyone is disappointed with the results, but we are working to fix things.”
Despite the chaos on the pitch, sources say player welfare remains stable, a rare sliver of good news in an otherwise bleak landscape.
The process to replace under fire interim coach Lloyd Chigowe reportedly began two weeks ago, with both foreign and local candidates being considered. Chigowe is expected to be redeployed within the club’s structures.
“The club knows the importance of getting this appointment right. There are strong candidates, and a decision will be made soon,” the insider added.
While no names have officially been confirmed, speculation is mounting that a seasoned foreign coach could be brought in to inject fresh ideas. However, experienced local tactician Saul Chaminuka has emerged as a front runner should the club opt for a homegrown solution.
For Dynamos fans, the situation is nothing short of unthinkable, a club of such stature teetering on the brink of relegation in a season where everyone else seems to be enjoying a goal rush.
