THE Harare Giants Dynamos Football Club have completed setting up the structures of a women’s football side, Dynamos Queens, that will be competing in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One this season.

This comes as a huge step forward as the club is moving to meet the CAF Club Licencing guidelines which requires all the top-flight football clubs that wish to play in the Champions League and Confederation Cup to have women’s sides.

Few local football clubs had women’s football clubs when CAF pronounced the requirement starting from last season.

Herentals, Yadah, Ngezi Platinum Stars, Highlanders, Harare City and Black Rhinos have fully established women’s football sides.

Herentals Queens are the current champions after winning the Super League last season.

To their credit, the local top-flight clubs especially the top teams have been complying. Champions FC Platinum last year formed Platinum Royals that played in the Central Region Division One.

Bulawayo Chiefs also have an established women’s side that was playing in the Southern Region.

Platinum Royals have since been promoted into the Super League and have appointed Mighty Warriors coach Sithetheliwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda as their head coach in the top-flight league.

Dynamos have also moved with speed. For the past five months, their women’s team has been training and early this week they got the confirmation from ZIFA that they will be playing in the Northern Region Division One.

Initially, Dynamos and the other five teams were supposed to play in the inaugural Northern Region Division Two but the new league has been deferred after it only attracted six teams.

The Northern Region Division One was left with 10 teams after some clubs folded, prompting the league executive to co-op six teams and extend their league to 16 teams.

So Dynamos Queens, Ali Sundowns Queens, Chitungwiza Queens which have been adopted by CAPS United, Mbare Stars, George Stark and Fire Queens will be part of the Northern Region Division One this year.

DeMbare executive committee member responsible for the development, youth football and women’s football Clemence Chimbari said they are happy that they have complied with the revised CAF requirements.

“We now have Dynamos Queens and the team is now training, and has been training for the past five months.

“We are extremely happy that Dynamos have complied with CAF requirements. As a club we are thrilled that we have managed to set up a women’s team and we have the coaches, managers as well as the players,” said Chimbari
