adminIn line with the arrangement at Zifa, Peter Ndlovu was supposed to be the other assistant coach at the national team by virtue of him being the Under-23 head coach.
But Ndlovu has since joined South African side Mamelodi Sundowns as its development coach and is currently with the team in Ghana for a pre-season training.
Ndlovu, the former Warriors skipper, did not even travel to Zambia with the Warriors for the Cosafa Castle Cup. Pasuwa is the assistant coach at Under-23 level and he has now been drafted into the new set-up in the Warriors technical department.
The Warriors are scheduled to leave before the weekend for an African Nations Championship qualifier in Mauritius. Dynamos secretary Webster Chikengezha said they do not have a problem with seconding their coach Pasuwa for national duty and hope to reap rewards from his engagement with the Warriors.
“We talked to Pasuwa before he took up the post with the national team and he said he was comfortable with handling the job.
“The league championship is at very critical stage and we do not want to make experiments with our coaching department for now,” said Chikengezha.
As the league went to the break, Dynamos are five points behind log leaders Harare City, who are on 37 points.
“Pasuwa said he will be able to put in place a training programme for the club during such times that he will be away with the national team,” said Chikengezha.
Pasuwa works with Tonderayi Ndiraya, Richard Chihoro and Tichaona Diya in the Dynamos technical department.
“I think Pasuwa deserved the recognition of being called up to help the senior national team.
“Besides, he is the reigning coach of the year and that speaks volumes.
“When he took over in 2011, we managed to win the championship and we also retained the league last season.
“Right now he has built a completely new strike force for the team and that shows he can get the results, even with limited resources,” said Chikengezha.
By travelling on intentional matches and working with the widely travelled Gorowa, Chikengezha hopes Pasuwa will learn one or two things from the former Moroka Swallows, Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax Cape Town coach.
“It’s good for Pasuwa to work with the national team because it gives him exposure. I hope part of the exposure will help us when we play in the African Champions League.
“Besides, he can learn something by working with Gorowa,” said Chikengezha.
Meanwhile, Chikengezha said the Harare giants were still pursuing former CAPS United defender Oscar Machapa, who has been off-loaded by Moroka Swallows, and Tafadzwa Rusike, who left Ajax Cape Town.
“We are still talking to the players and we should be making a decision soon,” said Chikengezha.
Former CAPS United player Takesure Chiragwi is said to be handling Machapa and a deal could be sealed soon while Rusike might find it hard to get a place at Dynamos.
Another former Dynamos striker, Evans Gwekwerere, is understood to have signed for police side Black Mambas.
