NICOLE Dzenga continued with her good run at the ongoing International Tennis Federation South Central African Junior Circuit Under-18 when she beat fifth seed Louise-Mare Botes in the quarter-finals yesterday in Windhoek, Namibia. Dzenga, seeded third, recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over Botes to storm into today’s semi-finals.

She will take on top seed, Theresa Van Zyl, of South Africa.
Van Zyl beat Katie Poluta 6-4, 6-3 to progress to the last four.

After winning her singles match, the 16-year-old then teamed up with Lize-Elfrida Moolman for the doubles and they beat the Botes twin sisters – Louise-Mare and Huibre-Mare – 6-4, 6-2 to progress to the finals.

They had earlier on defeated the pair of Caitlin Herb and Lindsay Truscott 6-4, 6-3 in the quarter-finals.
Dzenga and Moolman have a date against Van Zyl and Lesedi Jacobs.

Dzenga is the only Zimbabwean player still in the run for a title at the tournament and will be hoping to continue with her good performance. The other Zimbabwean players in both the boys and girls section were booted out of the competition. In the boys section Alwyn Mushonga lost to South Africa’s Lloyd Harris 7-6(5), 6-0 in the third round on Wednesday.

Mushonga partnered Taremeredzwa Mariga in the doubles and they went down to Jd Malan and Kris Van Wyk 7-6(2), 7-6(5).
The six-day tournament ends tomorrow with the finals.
