AFTER successfully winning the Marume Classic last month, Noah Dzvokora has shifted his focus to the Harare Classic set for Jubilee Hall at Milton Park in Harare this afternoon.
Dzvokora, who is under the guidance of seasoned bodybuilder Tarirai Chirume, said he is happy with his current form but expects tough competition.
“I think I am ready and I have been training hard as I never looked back after winning the Marume Classic. There will be a lot of competition considering that everyone has been in the gym ever since the bodybuilding calendar came out. A good performance at the Harare Classic will give me confidence ahead of the big one – the Zimbabwe Nationals – and it is everyone’s wish to win every contest during the calendar year.
“If it is your year you should maximise it and I am thankful to all those who have been rallying behind me like Edwell Dzingai Chimhamhi and Lovemore Mupfukwa who have faith in me. Life challenges have knocked me down more than six times whenever I tried to compete as challenges arose but, I did not give up, I kept coming back. I am sure it is my time nothing can stop me now as I rise again,” said Dzvokora.
The hulk has had a career full of ups and downs. After coming third at Harare Open in 2012 behind Nigel Maphosa and Douglas Mantonzi, Dzvokora came back three months later in devastating form at the All Africa Olympia, defeating both Maphosa and Mantonzi in the process.
He returned for the Mr Ironman in 2013 in the seniors and was placed among the top three; and with everyone expecting more, Dzvokora disappeared from the stage only to return for The Zimbabwe Nationals in 2018.
After a year break, the muscle mania made another surprise appearance with tones and tones of muscles at the Harare Classic in 2021 but his fortunes changed at last month’s Marume Classic which he convincingly won.
In today’s contest, Dzvokora will face off with defending champion and 2018 champion, Gideon Teguru, who is also on stage.
Teguru is hopeful that he will successfully defend his title after training so hard at Pro-fitness Borrowdale and at Colcom Gym.
“I think I have done enough, I have been dieting and I am grateful to Colcom for affording me some sponsorship ahead of the contest. As athletes we face challenges in terms of sponsorship but I will put that aside and focus on my stage presentation. Most of the guys are in their peak and there will be tough competition but I am ready to defend my title,” said Teguru.
Dzvokora and Teguru will, however, have to see off the challenge of Edward “Gearbox” Mutero, Elliah Samaringa, Aaron Musarurwa, Darlington Mukanwa and Blessing “CC Banks” Sithole.
Lynette Tom will be expected to continue her dominance in the women’s category where she will come up against Nomathamsanga Phiri and Eva Madanha among several others.
Harare Classic has a rich history as in the past multiple time Mr Zimbabwe, Champion Chienderamwano, stood against Vincent “Vince Cutter” Kandiyero, Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga, Victor Hungwe, Edward Mutero and Mugove Muhambi among other top athletes at Ochi City in 2013 which was epic.
