Eagles lose grip on Logan Cup

BULAWAYO Golf Club will be a hive of activity this weekend when the Dugmore Trophy amateur tournament tees off.
The tournament is usually the opening amateur tourney but was this year postponed to make way for the Africom Zimbabwe Open.
The Dugmore Trophy always carries a capacity field.
The return of the defending champion Scott Vincent, who was taking part in South African tournaments, will give the tournament its spice.
Vincent won seven straight titles last year and is expected to play in his second local tournament of the season.
After the postponement of the Dugmare Trophy last month the Julius Robinson was played first at Wingate.
The Zimbabwe Golf Association confirmed that the tournament will go ahead this weekend.
“We usually have a big field for the tournament and I do not see anything that can stop the amateurs to pitch up.
“With the competitive golf we saw in the first amateur tournament this is one not to miss. We expect a field of 90 golfers to take part in the event,” said Joe Sithole, the ZGA secretary.
Clive Nguru (Jnr) won the first amateur event. The golfer had to come back from six shots down to scratch a win at Wingate. The new season has seen the arrival of Scott Ferguson, Kyle Basson, Greg Bentley and Barry Painting on the scene.
Meanwhile local professional golfers are faring well at the on going PGA Telcom with Tongoona Charamba and Ryan Cairns in good form.
Charamba carded a four-under-par 68 to finish the first round tied with countrymen Cairns.
Bruce McDonald was on level par at the end of yesterday’s round.
Robson Saurombe, playing his first foreign tournament, was on two over par with Darren Bismark a shot behind.
Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association president Arkil Yuosof was on seven-over-par 79 to leave him with very slim chances of progressing to the final two rounds.
