RETIRED staff at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital this week received an assortment of groceries from Impala Car Hire, Doves and Schweppes as early Christmas gifts and as a way of honouring them for being loyal to the hospital.
The food hampers comprised mealie meal, cooking oil, fruit squashes, sugar, bathing and washing soaps, flour, tea bags and sugar beans, among other items.
All the retired had served at the hospital for more than 35 years offering their services to patients and staff.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Sally Mugabe Central Hospital clinical director Mr Hopewell Mungani said the gifts would go a long way in helping the retirees enjoy the festive season.
“It is always an honour and pleasure to be among people who have served for more than 35 years at the institution. We commend the work that was done by our retirees and they have managed to work in all different environments. They could have left for greener pastures, but they decided to stand with the hospital.
“We have a lot of skilled people and we hope the retirees have imparted their skills to those who are staying behind. They have set a high standard which we hope their predecessors will emulate,” he said.
Mr Mungani also thanked the sponsors for supporting them throughout the year and for always donating to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital.
“We want to thank our partners for being there for us throughout the year. We value these people and their partnership has been very helpful to the institution.”
Impala Car Hire marketing manager, Ms Linda Manyau, said they were honoured to be among the partners of Sally Mugabe Central Hospital.
“This is something that holds fond memories for the founding director, the late Mr (Thompson) Dondo as well as our current chief executive who is also the co-founder because this is where they started,” she said.
“They did their internship at the hospital until they moved on to other stages in life. We are so excited to have partnered for this programme and we will continue to support Sally Mugabe Hospital.”
