THE 2023 Easter Darts National Championship that was held at Milton Boys High School in Bulawayo was a resounding success as it saw large numbers of players taking part.
Attracting over 150 players, the tournament was the first Easter championship since the outbreak of Covid-19 which forced the suspension of all sporting activities. The attendance also brought about stiff competition.

“This year’s edition was a great improvement compared to last August’s tournament. The event was highly competitive because of the quality players that it attracted.
We therefore want to commend the Bulawayo Darts Association for hosting such a successful event,” said National Darts Association of Zimbabwe president, Meynard Moyo.

He said the good attendance was a confirmation that the sport is growing and they will continue working hard to grow it.
In the men’s team events, Harare topped the standings followed by Midlands and Manicaland provinces while in the women’s section, Midlands, Matabeleland South and Manicaland were the top three respectively.
In the presidential singles, Manicaland’s Salesio Gunda was the winner and in second and third position was Modoka Dheka and Alvot Tazvitya both from Harare.
In the women’s section, Eunice Moyo from Bulawayo topped the standings and was followed by Sibabone Mamwiri and Melody Gezani from Midlands and Manicaland respectively.

In the men’s national closed singles, Stanley Chingono from Midlands topped the charts followed by Cecil Phiri and Tinodashe Mabika from Harare while Oasis Sibanda from Matabeleland North topped the women’s section and was followed by Eunice Moyo and Wayne Mandhlazi, both from Bulawayo.
Hloniphani Ndlovu and Gunda scooped the highest close prizes with 129 points and 154 points respectively for women and men.

In the presidential singles, Manicaland’s Salesio Gunda was the winner and in second and third position was Modoka Dheka and Alvot Tazvitya both from Harare.
Moyo said they are planning to have educational workshops during such tournaments.
The next national event is scheduled for August and is likely to also take place at Milton High. — @brandon_malvin
