Easter darts tourney venue changed

The championships were initially supposed to be held at Falcon College before  being moved to the Zimbabwe School of Mines which was however found to be short of accommodation.
Close to 400 players are expected for the tournament.

Ndaz president, Meynard Moyo confirmed the change of venue from his base in Harare yesterday morning.
“I can confirm that our Easter Holidays Championships will be at Hillside Teachers’ College. We were meant to use Zimbabwe School of Mines after moving from Falcon College but we realised the school does not have adequate accommodation facilities,” said Moyo.

The president said after the tournament, a 20-member men’s team and 10 ladies would be selected as the initial squad for the August Zone Six Championships in South Africa.
Moyo said they would also choose an Under-25 men’s and women’s teams as well as two over-50s as per the Zone Six requirements.

Promising Bulawayo players like Parkview Kanka’s Calr Bazly and Highlanders’ Albert Tawanda are likely to make it into the Under-25s team.
“The selected players will then have trials where 14 players will be dropped from the men’s and six from the women’s so that we remain with our final squad for South Africa,” said Moyo.

The trials will be held after the Easter tournament.
According to the Ndaz president, this year’s championships will take a different format compared to previous years where a round-robin format was used.
This time provinces will be put into groups of four or five with the winners progressing to the next stage, the quarter-finals right up to the finals.

“Provinces will also bring in three men’s teams and two women’s compared to one less previously invited. As for the host province, Bulawayo, they are allowed to bring in one more than the other provinces,” said Moyo.
In an effort to develop the sport among youngsters, provinces have been called upon to ensure that their third team is made up of juniors.

Bulawayo held their selection trials for both men and women a few weeks ago and the provincial organising secretary, Lethukuthula Nkomo, declared that they want to make sure the trophy remains in Bulawayo.

At the 2011 Heroes Holidays tournament held at Falcon College, Bulawayo performed dismally with a David Nyemba and Peter Mulukhula led Mashonaland West scooping literally everything on offer.
