Easter holidays rekindled

PEOPLE from all walks of life have expressed delight at getting to spend this year’s Easter holidays with their families and loved ones.

Last year people spent the holidays in their homes following the first 21-day lockdown which was enforced on March 31 and did not allow any form of movement except for essential services only.

There was a hive of activity in Harare City Centre today as people went on their last shopping spree in preparation of the Easter holidays which start tomorrow.

Supermarkets were filled with people doing their shopping for the holidays while at Mbare Bus Terminus some were travelling to their rural areas to spend Easter with their families and relatives.

In interviews, most people said they will spend the holiday with their families but will be adhering to the laid down regulations. Lilian Musapuri said she will spend the holiday at home with her family since her eldest son was visiting her from Marondera where he works.

“This year I am happy that my eldest son and his family are coming to spend the Easter holidays with me. It was long since we spent some time together and I am also happy that I will be meeting my grandchildren and my daughter-in-law.

“Today, I am doing this shopping so that when they come we will be home and there will be no unnecessary movements. People should be reminded that even though the lockdown has been relaxed, Covid-19 is still there and is deadly,” she said.

Anotidaishe Nyoni from Hopley said she was making plans to visit her family in Kwekwe for the holidays.

“My hometown is Kwekwe so I am planning to go there spend the Easter holidays with my parents. I came to Harare because of work and it has been long since I visited my parents because of the lockdown but now I am happy that I can visit them,” she said.

Tatenda Mbasera said he will spend the holiday with his family at his residential place in the Avenues area.

“This year I had no plan but I will make sure that I stay home with my family. I think we are going to have some refreshments and braai with my wife and children,” he said.
