Eastern Region to suffer more in PSL relegation

THERE is a higher probability that the Eastern region will suffer more on the last day of PSL action, with up to five teams promoted from that region in the relegation mix.

These include Triangle, Bikita Minerals, GreenFuel, Manica Diamonds and Yadah.

And the most tragic scenario is that at least four of them are cancelling each other, making sure that at least two will be relegated.

Manica Diamonds face Bikita Minerals while Triangle clash with GreenFuel. Yadah will play Simba Bhora, with the Miracle Boys having an outside chance of surviving.

As things stand, the worst-case scenario is three going down the drain.

“In the history of the region, we have never had three teams being relegated at once,” said Eastern Region Chairman, Wisdom Simba. “So if it happens, then it will be a first.”

Simba believes they will still be able to accommodate all three back.

“It won’t affect much, we already had a vacant slot that was left by JM Busha,” he stated, indicating the league’s promotion-relegation structure could absorb the shock.

FC Hunters of Marondera will increase the number of teams in PSL from that region after gaining promotion.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Region is pushing forward with completing their season well.

A four-team tournament featuring Tenax, Hunters, Buffaloes and Masvingo United is scheduled for November 22 at Vhengere.

“As the administration we have a big one, the Four Tournament, we are focusing on it as we want to conclude on a high,” he said.

“We have had a great season and as a region we wish to continue like that.”
