The development has seen residents in suburbs such Hillside, Matsheumhlope, Kumalo, Famona, Burnside, Riverside, and Waterford going for two days without adequate water supplies.
In a statement, Bulawayo City Council senior public relations officer, Mrs Nesisa Mpofu said the power disruptions had affected Ncema Waterworks and Fernhill Pump Station.
“The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Distribution Company (ZETDC) had a breakdown and since 4pm on Sunday, there has been no electricity at Ncema Waterworks and Fernhill Pump Station,” said Mrs Mpofu.
“As a result Tuli Reservoir, which supplies most of the city’s eastern suburbs, is quickly running low to the effect that there maybe water shortages in these suburbs.
“The council wishes to apologise to the residents for the inconvinience likely to be caused.”
Contacted for comment later in the day, Zesa western region manager Mr Lovemore Chinaka said they were attending to the problem.
“Our workmen are attending to the problem and they are almost finishing,” said Mr Chinaka.
