Emerging from Gwanda, her bars are statements that make you wonder whether Zim’s hip-hop stage is about to get bigger than ever. Her name is Easyice Ice, whose flows are nice nice, and she’s coming out for the ultimate prize with a fire never seen before.
The trilingual rapper, whose real name is Esther Ngwaru, first made waves with her single “INGQALA”, which earned her a prestigious spot on the Zimbabwe Hip Hop Awards Cypher.
And this year, she joins other stars in headlining the Shoko Festival, proving that raw talent, sharp bars and consistency break down industry doors. Music entertains us, but for Easy, it’s a revolution that is changing everything.
“My story begins in Gwanda, a Ndebele-speaking area, where growing up immersed in rhythmic click sounds shaped my unique flow. Grounded in cultural pride and relentless execution, I bridge local African roots with global hip-hop standards by staying true to my multilingual flow and treating every bar like a statement,” said Easy.
Her love for rap bloomed naturally from a tender age, sparking the fire to write her own verses, made possible by her environment.
“My family has always been supportive since day one.”
Today, fuelled by a grounded inner circle, dedicated studio collaborators who push her craft, and a growing fanbase, her fire burns brighter.
Philosophers believe mankind is constantly struggling with belief in God versus belief in himself, but for Easy, this is a mental quandary that doesn’t limit her potential or power.
“I look up to myself, and I want to pioneer that lane, set a new standard, and inspire female rappers through my courage to forge a path that hasn’t been walked before and create a blueprint for the next generation,” said Easy.
When the cameras are off, Easy is quite easy-going, realising rest as a fashion and visual aesthetic enthusiast who loves diving into beauty, wellness, and personal branding.
“Behind the stage persona, I am a grounded, focused businesswoman who values self-care, strategic planning, and quality time with my inner circle.”
Easy’s passion for education is truly inspiring.
“Education is the ultimate tool for female liberation because it gives women critical thinking, financial independence, and total control over their own narratives. For me, education provides the business acumen I need to negotiate contracts, protect my brand, and treat my music career as a scalable venture. It taught me that talent gets you in the room, but education and intellect keep you in charge,” she said.
Easy does not stay silent about the challenges women in rap face and offers the vision to support ladies.
“The biggest challenge women in rap face is immediate audience comparison; instead of giving each female artist space to shine, people instantly pit us against each other,” said Easy, adding “and therefore, the Government and community must create safer creative spaces, fund youth arts programs, and ensure equal booking slots for female acts on major festival lineups.”
She actively mentors rising female talent, collaborates with young creators, and uses her platform to prove that women can lead, own and dictate the game.
Easy’s ultimate vision is to build an international cross-industry empire that bridges African music, fashion, and business while breaking global records as a trilingual artist, and to leave a legacy that shifts the culture, proving that African women can own their narrative and build wealth on their own terms.
“My message to young girls is that they should never shrink themselves to fit a room; master your craft, trust your power, and build your own stage.”
