Ecobank Zimbabwe has donated various medical supplies to Parirenyatwa psychiatric hospital as part of a campaign to raise awareness and help prevent non-communicable diseases, particularly mental health in the country.
The equipment, which included a supply of medicines to last the hospital for a year, 40 medical beds, assorted medical equipment, disinfectants, buckets and kitchen utensils, were handed over to the deputy minister of Health and Child Care, Dr John Mangwiro.
Ecobank board chairman Mr Emmanuel Gwatidzo said the bank had set aside the month of October each year to celebrate a community day known as ‘Ecobank Day’ which has been celebrated since 2013.
“2021 Ecobank Day marks the final year of our three-year campaign to raise awareness and help prevent non-communicable diseases which include mental health. Under this year’s theme ‘Mental health-time to talk and act’, we are raising awareness on the importance of mental health and helping reduce stigma and discrimination in Zimbabwe,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Dr Mangwiro said the medicines would go a long way to alleviate the shortage of drugs in the institution.
