Econet in internet blackout

Chronicle Reporter
ECONET subscribers in some parts of the country yesterday faced challenges communicating on the data network.

“I’m on Econet and have been trying to communicate on the internet but have been having problems for most of the day,” said a subscriber, based in Bulawayo.

“I don’t know what problem there is but it is very inconvenient.”

Other subscribers raised similar concerns, urging Econet to speedily fix the problem.

Interviewed late last night, Econet spokesman, Rangarirai Mberi confirmed there indeed was a challenge on the data platform. He said the problem started around midday, but had been fixed by 10.30pm.

“We did experience challenges on data services in some parts of the country and our team of engineers has managed to resolve it. Harare and Bulawayo were affected,” he said.
