President Mnangagwa has praised outgoing Midlands Minister of State Cde Owen Ncube for a tremendous job he did in the province after overseeing the revival of companies, roads and schools construction among other programmes.
Addressing multitudes of people at Lundi Primary School in Mapanzure, Zvishavane over the weekend, President Mnangagwa said Cde Ncube was hardworking more than some of the ministers he hired when he assumed office in November last year.
He said Cde Ncube had accomplished more than what his predecessors had achieved in a short space of time.
“I am very pleased with the work he did within a short period of time. He accomplished more than what his predecessor Machaya did. I don’t remember anything that Machaya did. Machaya said haite zvekwa Mnangagwa. I know he is hardworking and some of the projects include roads and schools construction. He performed better than some of the ministers we had since November last year. However, I have appointed a new minister for Midlands, Cde Larry Mavhima,” he said.
President Mnangagwa challenged Cde Mavhima to perform and maintain or surpass the standards set by Cde Ncube in the province.
Some of the projects that were commenced under Cde Ncube were the construction of a road which links Shurugwi-Zvishavane Highway and Mabasa Growth point, another linking Mberengwa and West Nicholson, where Government availed $ 19 million.
He also saw the construction of clinics and schools in Gokwe and was instrumental in the restoration of professionalism among civil servants in the province.
Midlands will now be taken over by Cde Mavhima as Minister of State.
Cde Mavhima is a senator for Zvishavane-Shurugwi and National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) board chairman, who together with former transport Minister Cde Joram Gumbo, initiated the revitalisation of NRZ after partnering with Diaspora Infrastructural Development Group (DIDG).
