The state-of-the-art Midlands State University National Pathology Research and Diagnostic Centre in Gweru, commissioned by President Mnangagwa barely a year after the Head of State and Government performed a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the start of the project. The new centre is set to be the biggest diseases and specimens research centre in the country. Since the advent of the Second Republic, the Government has been implementing bold programmes of national economic reconstruction and social transformation to create national wealth and lift millions into prosperity.

In a few years, the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa has registered tremendous strides in the improvement of people’s lives through cushioning the public by providing facilities such as buses under the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company stable as the Second Republic accelerates its efforts to provide a cheaper, efficient and cost effective transport system.

The deployment of reverse engineering to produce spare parts for the business units installed at Verify Engineering (Pvt) Ltd Acetylene Gas Plant in Mutare is in line with the country’s ‘Made in Zimbabwe, Buy Zimbabwe and Build Zimbabwe’ initiative and the country’s import substitution strategy. The plant was commissioned by the President in Mutare this year. Acetylene is a utility industrial gas, which combined with oxygen, forms oxy-acetylene that is used for metal fabrication. It is also used as a reagent in chemical production processes. It further improves the quality of cut metals and enhances efficiencies of gas across industries.

THE Zimbabwe Satellite (ZimSat-1) which was successfully launched to the international space station last month was fully developed by three Zimbabweans who were studying in Japan. Zimbabwe joined some of the elite nations that have successfully launched rockets to the international space station. The ground-breaking development is expected to have far-reaching effects that include improved weather predictions in the country, which in turn is expected to boost the agricultural sector, enhance mineral exploration and monitoring of environmental hazards and droughts. Additionally, it will aid in mapping human settlements and disease outbreaks, among other capabilities.

Commissioning of Radnor Mine, a multimillion-dollar gold plant in Makaha, Mudzi district is a clear demonstration of confidence in the Second Republic’s quest to attain a US$12 billion mining industry by 2023. The official opening of Radnor Mining, a partnership between local and Chinese investors will see the unlocking of value from the country’s abundant mineral resources. Such investments, enhanced exploration activities, the resuscitation of closed mines, opening of new mines, expansion of existing mines and adoption of new and more efficient mining techniques are contributing to the realisation of our mining sector target.

CONSTRUCTION of Semwa Dam across Ruya River, which borders Mt Darwin and Rushinga districts, is expected to bring an end to perennial water challenges experienced in the district. The water body, wholly funded by Government, has immense potential to bring socio-economic transformation in Mashonaland Central in the areas of food security, poverty alleviation, employment creation and steady water supply for Rushinga and Chimhanda. It is expected to provide irrigation water for more than 12 000 hectares in the two districts and has the capacity to generate hydro-electric power to be fed into the national grid.

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa commissioned and handed over fishing rigs to 21 local chiefs, 17 from Binga and four from Kariba communities in a bold empowerment initiative that is expected to transform livelihoods in the remote district. The Second Republic is determined to transforming Binga and is working on several development projects being swiftly implemented to empower the community, which for many years has been regarded as under-developed. Four women’s groups and four youth groups also got fishing rigs.
