PRESIDENT Mnangagwa won the 30 July Presidential election with 50,8 percent of the votes cast against his nearest contender Mr Nelson Chamisa of the MDC Alliance who got 44,3 percent.
President Mnangagwa’s party, Zanu-PF, also garnered a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly with 145 seats while the MDC Alliance won 63 seats with the National Patriotic Front (NPF) and an independent candidate Mr Temba Mliswa getting a seat each.
The ruling party’s national spokesman, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said the victory could not have been delivered if it was not for the party’s listening President and his team.
“Credit must go to the courageous, visionary and servant leadership of its President and First Secretary Cde ED Mnangagwa and the entire Zanu-PF leadership at all levels including war veterans, ex-detainees, war collaborators and our versatile youth,” he said.
Ambassador Khaya Moyo said Zanu-PF continues to write new chapters with its masses driven policies.
“The revolutionary party Zanu-PF has not just scored a two-thirds majority in the House of Assembly but has delivered a resounding victory in a landmark plebiscite whose footprints is not only an inspiration to patriotic Zimbabweans but all peace-loving people the world over,” he said.
After being announced as the winner, the President urged Zimbabweans to remain united and work for the betterment of the country.
“Thank you Zimbabwe! I am humbled to be elected President of the Second Republic of Zimbabwe. Though we may have been divided at the polls, we are united in our dreams. This is a new beginning. Let us join hands in peace, unity, love, and together build a new Zimbabwe for all!”
Indeed, the elections have come and gone, and now it’s time for Zimbabweans to work together to change the fortunes of the country in the economic front, as President Mnangagwa has always said.
From the time he took over the country’s top job in November last year, he has preached the gospel of unity and hard work to create jobs and improve the economy. As we usher in the new Government, we urge everyone to look forward with optimism and shun negative energies of the past.
We truly believe President Mnangagwa will take the country forward, and everyone should put their political differences aside and put Zimbabwe first.
President Mnangagwa’s policies of international engagement and re-engagement were beginning to bear fruit with scores of investors coming into the country.
The social and political climate had changed for the better, the lives of civil servants had been improved with better salaries and working conditions, the quality of life for people in rural areas had been improved with Command Agriculture and Command Livestock interventions, and we urge every Zimbabwean to sing; “Forward ever, backward never”.
