After becoming runners up in the past three seasons, the team finally struck the right football code to reach their football destination.
Considering that Buffaloes FC were unfortunately relegated, Gusha Bhora, as the Mutare City team is affectionately known, has brought back premiership action to Manicaland.
The team deserves special recognition.
We hail the illustrious and dedicated executive members who kept on with their unwavering football determination to stir the club to where it is now.
Soccer being the most beautiful game and the most followed sport, the city should be proud of Mutare City Rovers.
It took the team four years for their prayers to be heard. The journey that begun in 2012 was long and tiresome, as the team encountered various obstacles that brought tears and heartbreaks.
Fans gave their unwavering support with some travelling long distances to cheer on the team during away matches.
The formation of the team’s brass band was the most imperative highlight of the supporters’ seriousness, as they hoped that their efforts would one day bring the anticipated results.
There is now reason for residents of Mutare and beyond to come forward and support the team to avoid relegation. We implore the team’s executive members to work tirelessly and diligently.
We therefore take this opportunity to remind City Rovers management of the need to consult widely and get ideas on how to improve the Mutare City Rovers brand.
There is no harm by the team to join forces with other stakeholders to strengthen the squad. This is the chance for local players to exhibit their skills on the national stage and get the rare chance to be picked by scouts who represent teams from abroad.
This starts with thorough preparation before the start of the 2016 Castle Lager Premiership season. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail, they say.
While we celebrate with them, we need not forget to remind them that Premiership football is not child’s play hence the need to prepare adequately as well as getting the right people for specific jobs within the team.
In the same breadth, it is known that City Rovers is more of a community team thus they enjoy the support of ordinary people in Sakubva, Chikanga and Dangamvura.
However, our wish is that the same people from Sakubva, Chikanga and Dangamvura, who supported the team in Division One, maintain the momentum in the top flight league.
History has shown us that soccer fans in Mutare can support their Mutare based team well in Division One and somehow have a change of heart when the team gets promoted into the top flight league. One needs not look beyond the now defunct Highway FC as an example.
It is our sincere hope it will not be the same old story for Buffaloes and we wish them well in the 2016 Castle Lager Premiership season.
