Walking in Spirit: Never give up on your dreams

2 Peter 3 vs 8-9; “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

Birthdays are a significant milestone in anyone’s life, they give us the opportunity to not only reflect and look back, but to envision the future as well. Our lives are all similar despite our differences, we all have dreams. Others have big dreams while some have pint-sized dreams that aptly resonate with their faith.

The significance of birthdays is that each passing year as you grow older, you are supposed to have gained experience, knowledge and wisdom. Often times it does not quite work out like that and at times we all wonder why nature is being retrogressive by not allowing someone to grow.

Experience and age should teach us that with each passing day, you are inching closer to your intended goal. We are sometimes easily discouraged when things don’t work out the way we want them to and within the time frame we have prescribed for ourselves.

It’s as if we put a timer on issues and declare that it cannot happen a minute later, we try and plan everything to a tee. We leave very few issues to chance and when our plans don’t quite match with our reality, we become upset and despondent and we almost want to give up and stop living.

Some of the goals we set can sometimes put us under so much internal pressure that instead of being a blessing, they start to take away from our happiness. Our happiness and warmth is eroded because what we wanted to happen this year has not happened in the manner and time frame we set.

Age should teach us one fundamental lesson, which is that in life there are certain things you cannot change despite your best intentions. This does not, however, mean you should give up on your dreams.

Rather you should be patient and realistic in the time frames you set, you should be equally accommodative of changes that may occur along the way. Hiccups and distractions may slow down your journey and delay you, but they will not take from your vision.

Be blessed.
