THE 2025 Castle Lager Premiership ended on Sunday with the fireworks, which were expected on the final day, falling flat.
Interest had been hyped up by the possibility that Dynamos, the country’s biggest and most successful football club, could be relegated if results didn’t go their way.
Highlanders, the second biggest and the second most successful football club in the country, were also mathematically in danger.
However, as we had correctly predicted, only an incredible turn of events, including Bosso losing by a scoreline of about ten goals, while their other rivals won, would end up with Highlanders being relegated.
That was never going to happen and Bosso secured their place in the PSL for another season after a 1-1 draw against Chicken Inn in their final game of the season.
Even if they had lost that game, the reality is that Bosso would still have secured their place in the PSL for next season.
This explains why most of the attention was on Dynamos.
If Yadah had won their final match of the season against Simba Bhora, and Dynamos had lost to FC Platinum, the Glamour Boys would have gone down. However, when Simba Bhora took an early lead in Shamva, it meant that Yadah now had a mountain to climb and DeMbare were all but safe.
For us, what really mattered was that we saw a display of Fair Play on the final day of the PSL marathon on Sunday.
We saw all the teams committing themselves to the values of professionalism and, rather than throwing away games, we saw them fighting for every inch and every point.
This is important because it helps the PSL convince the sponsors and fans that they are offering a genuine product that is not tainted by match-fixing.
They are offering a product where games are won on the field of play and not in boardrooms. This is what sponsors want to see and this is what fans want to know for them to retain their patronage of our top-flight league.
There were rumors, most of them playing out on social media, that clubs like Simba Bhora, who virtually had nothing to play for, would give Yadah the points on a silver platter.
The conspiracy theorists claimed that Simba Bhora owner, Simba Ndoro, and Yadah president Prophet Walter Magaya were close friends and this meant that this game would be decided by a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ between the two.
They said Prophet Magaya even donated building material to Ndoro when he renovated Wadzanai to enable the stadium to host PSL matches. They also said Ndoro has said that Magaya was the one who inspired him to invest in football.
But, come match day on Sunday, the conspiracy theorists were shamed as Simba Bhora fought for the good of the PSL and beat Yadah and, in the process, sent them into Division One. We also saw FC Platinum going all guns blazing in their match against Dynamos even though they were just playing for their pride.
