HERITAGE based Education 5.0 will produce experts who can lead the country’s economic growth and help in the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a Cabinet Minister has said.
Speaking during the signing of a tripartite memorandum of understanding in Harare yesterday, Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Amon Murwira reaffirmed Government’s commitment to align the education system with existing challenges at both national and continental level.
The tripartite MOU was singed between the Management Training Bureau (MTB), African Professionalisation Initiative (API) and the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute of Zimbabwe (CGAIZ).
Prof Murwira said Education 5.0 was key in developing capabilities required by the country to achieve its production target.
“We must make sure that we have professional accountants that are efficient and able to account for our resources, for our tax,” he said. “Efficiency is very important in the delivery of our vision. We believe that this agreement will enable us to roll out a programme of training people not only from Zimbabwe, but from Africa so that we are able to achieve a vision for Zimbabwe and the African Agenda 2063.
“One of our mandates as Government is to set up institutions that deliver on the strategy of a country so that we are able to do continuous learning to improve our professions. This one of accounting is important because once we do production and we are moving towards Vision 2030.
“Capability is very important, wishes and vision are fulfilled by capabilities. Capabilities are developed by people that are networked so that they are more efficient in terms of delivering the capability and the vision. Our objective is to spread the skills so that we have a critical mass of capable people.”
“We believe that through this training programme we are able to bring more people on line who are capable to deliver the efficiency that we need, the taxation accountability that we need in order to meet our national vision.”
CGAIZ chief executive officer and secretary Dr Lovemore Gomera said the tripartite memorandum of understanding enables all parties to become members of the institute.
“MTB has the training facilities and CGAIZ came in to professionalise the people who would have been trained,” he said.
“We are now going to the grassroots where we are saying those that are coming from the universities and general accounting levels must get a pathway into professionalisation.”
