TSHOLOTSHO High School students are receiving an education that goes beyond traditional academics.

The school offers driving lessons, allowing students to obtain their learner’s licences.

So far, 15 students have successfully earned their driver’s licences, while 31 have secured learner’s licences.
These impressive statistics were shared during the school’s annual speech and prize-giving day, which was centred around the theme “Embracing Heritage Through Education”.

The event was attended by students, parents and community leaders all eager to celebrate the awards presented to the school’s top achievers. Awards were presented in various categories, including sports, academics and community service.

Some notable awards included recognition for teachers achieving 100 percent in A-level, and 80 percent and above in O-level for the Zimsec exams in 2023. The event also honoured the Worker of the Year, Outstanding Teacher, Outstanding Student, Parent of the Year, and top performers in each subject.
Tsholotsho High School headmaster, Mr Sicelo Dube, was proud of his school’s progress and improvements in pass rates.

“I love this school and thank you, parents, for choosing and sending your children to Tsholotsho High School. It is indeed the school of choice,” he said.
He announced that the school’s A-level pass rate rose from 94 percent in 2022 to 97 percent last year, while the O-level rate improved from 48 percent to 76 percent.

Mr Dube commended the teachers for their dedication and commitment to enhancing academic performance and underlined the importance of embracing heritage-based education.
“Our heritage is a tapestry woven from diverse cultures, traditions and experiences. It is the foundation upon which we continue to build and transform our communities and our nation,” he said.

He urged students to appreciate their heritage while leveraging technological advancements and natural resources to foster economic growth.
The school’s SDC chairperson, Mr Lazarus Moyo, reflected on the school’s achievements this year.

“We are happy for the achievements the school has achieved since its establishment. Today, I want to share this year’s accomplishments, which motivated this gathering. In June, we commissioned our new Asterisk 72-seater bus, and we are in the process of solarising the school. We have actively participated in all Nash-organised activities.

The completed projects include the tiling of two laboratories and four classroom blocks, the purchase of 60 lab chairs for the labs, and the installation of whiteboards in all classrooms, which embraces technology and reduces dust from chalk.

“Additionally, a pig sty was constructed, and a modernised weather station was built with updated apparatus. Warm water provision was implemented for the cold season, and all broken window panes were repaired. Vehicle repairs were also carried out to enhance mobility, notably for the ‘Chocolate Bus,’ while our truck, affectionately named ‘Handsome’, is undergoing major repairs with its old body replaced by a better one, and our Toyota truck is also in for significant repairs,” he said.
Tsholotsho High is, without a doubt, a shining example of what a comprehensive educational institution can achieve.
