EDUCATION remains Government’s priority as a cornerstone of national development and realigning systems to meet demands of the 21st Century, particularly in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has said.
Speaking at the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the first Advanced Level classes at Monte Cassino Girls High School, the Vice President said Education 5.0, adopted by the Government, was not merely a policy framework, but a transformative paradigm shift in the nation’s approach to education and the economic needs of the country and the world economy.
Monte Cassino opened in 1961 and many former students have gone on to play critical roles in the country and beyond, but the school only started offering A’ Level classes at the turn of the millennium.
“The Second Republic continues to prioritise education as a cornerstone of our national development strategy,” said VP Chiwenga.
“Through the implementation of the transformative Education 5.0 policy, our country is realigning its educational system to meet the demands of the 21st century, particularly in STEM.
“Education 5.0 is not just a policy framework, it is a paradigm shift. It seeks to move beyond theory to practice; beyond learning to industrialisation; beyond consumption to innovation.
“We now expect our institutions to produce graduates who do not merely seek jobs, but who create industries, generate solutions and drive national transformation,” said VP Chiwenga.
Government, he said, was proud that Monte Cassino Girls’ High School had embraced the national vision on education.
“Through STEM-focused learning and hands-on experience, our girls are being equipped with critical skills, ready to take up space in tomorrow’s boardrooms, laboratories, and innovation hubs.
“They are being groomed as future leaders, engineers, technologists, and entrepreneurs, the custodians of Zimbabwe’s prosperity.
“I am equally pleased that this institution recognises that education is holistic. The school’s commitment to nurturing both the intellect and the spirit reflects an understanding that true empowerment goes beyond academic achievement.
“Monte Cassino continues to cultivate discipline, integrity, faith, and resilience, values essential for navigating life’s complex journey,” said VP Chiwenga.
He also addressed pressing societal issues, particularly the rise of drug abuse among youth, calling it a national concern that threatens the very fabric of society.
“It is incumbent upon us as leaders, parents, teachers, and citizens to unite against this menace,” he urged, quoting Proverbs 22:6 to emphasise the importance of guidance in nurturing the next generation.
“Happy Silver Jubilee to Monte Cassino Girls’ High School on achieving 25 years of A’ Level status. May the next 25 years be marked by even greater triumphs, innovation and distinction.”
