EDWIN MADHANGA was the unlikely hero as Harare City grabbed maximum points in a tightly contested Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro yesterday.
Madhanhanga planted a 45th minute header to secure maximum points for the Sunshine Boys who had Raphael Manuvire making his first start in the Moses Chunga era.
Manuvire wanted out of City during the midseason transfer window but had a change of heart after a “man to man talk” with his gaffer.
The result ensured that Harare City dislodged Dynamos from fifth position on the log standings.
Chunga’s men moved into fifth position on the log and the nomadic gaffer, who describes himself as a rolling stone, was impressed with what he saw.
“The team played very well and I think luck was on our side today because Ngezi were attacking ferociously in the dying minutes of the game.
“What I can say is that you shall see more from this team and its unfortunate that some of my players are either suspended or injured so it was not a full strength team,” he said.
Ngezi coach Tonderai Ndiraya felt short changed by the match officials.
“The referee robbed us and I believe we could have collected maximum points.
“Overally we played well as a team but we lacked the final cutting edge,” he said.
Ngezi Platinum were forced to make a change just 35 minutes into the match after their striker Tichaona Mabvura got injured.
“Mabvura was giving our opponents problems and his injury made us alter our game plan.If he had stayed longer he could have scored,” reckoned Ndiraya.
