INDIGENOUS business people in Mashonaland East Province have been challenged to grab economic opportunities that are being rolled out by the Second Republic.
The call was made by Mashonaland East Economic Empowerment Group (EEG) chairperson Mr Lincoln Matare during the appointment of the provincial executive council last weekend.
“We want to push for the empowerment of marginalised communities to ensure full realisation of their desires to have an upper middle economy by 2030 vision which is in line with National Development Strategy,” said Mr Matare.
“This organisation is focusing on economic empowerment incorporating all citizens and pushing President’s Vision 2030. We have already started to empower youth who are in mining activities in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe.”
Mr Matare said as an empowerment group they are lobbying for the enforcement of laws that reserve certain sectors, such as retail for locals.
“We want to make sure that those who are in business take this economic emancipation seriously as it will change their lives,” he said.
EEG secretary general Jeremiah Gwanzura said of economic emancipation of marginalised people is game changer as it dovetails with President Mnangagwa vision of development that leaves no one and no place behind.
