THE Zimbabwe Cestoball Association will this afternoon host the annual President Cup at Ellis Robins where several clubs are expected to compete for the converted trophy.

Cestoball was introduced in 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic struck and has been making some strides as Zica have been hosting several national tournaments.

The President’s Cup was first held in 2021 and president Amon Madzvamuse said he is happy to be holding the competition.

“We are very excited to be hosting third competition of the President’s Cup, it’s a way to end our year-long season of the sport and it will also get to assess how our coaches are doing as we have been training coaches and administrators,” said Madzvamuse.

The Association has been empowering coaches and referees after enrolling for an international training programmes in the past few years.

Madzvamuse added that they will observe a moment of silence for the late secretary general J Takafuma.

The former Zimbabwe Handball Federation boss said the recently established sport association has already moved mountains as they had chances to be recognised by local and international governing boards.

Cestoball is a sport created in Argentina in 1897. During the conference in Buenos Aires and Santa Rosa in 1986, the sport changed the name to Cestoball with the purpose of making the old Argentine sport called “pelota al cesto’’ more dynamic and to bring its rules into closer harmony with korfball and netball.
