EMA STORMS BULAWAYO! Five day blitz targets dirty habits

Sikhumbuzo Moyo

THE Environmental Management Agency (EMA) has descended on Bulawayo, launching a five-day hard-hitting blitz to whip residents and businesses into line on environmental laws.
The campaign, which kicks off today, is part of a nationwide drive to promote environmental consciousness, sustainability and compliance across Zimbabwe.

In a notice, EMA said the operation will leave no stone unturned as officials roll out roadshows, awareness roadblocks, educational outreaches, clean-ups and surprise inspections to check licence status and unpaid bills.
“The blitz will include roadshows, roadblock awareness campaigns, educational outreach in communities, clean-up activities and stakeholder engagements, checking licence status, designed to strengthen public understanding and cooperation in tackling environmental challenges,” EMA said.

The focus areas include proper waste management, anti-dumping practices, veldfire prevention, industry regulation and community participation in environmental stewardship.
EMA warned that businesses must ensure their operations are licensed and outstanding bills cleared as part of the compliance checks.

The Agency called on residents, community leaders and institutions to play their part.
“Together, we can build a cleaner, safer and more resilient environment for future generations,” EMA declared.
