Embrace digital skills for global competitiveness: President

Zimbabwean youths must embrace digital skills and technology to secure their future and drive national economic growth in a rapidly evolving global economy, President Mnangagwa has said
In his keynote address at the National Youth Day commemorations at the ZITF Grounds in Bulawayo on Friday, the President urged young people to adapt, innovate and take charge in an increasingly digital world.
“In this digital age, you must be equipped with the necessary skills to navigate the complex global ecosystem,” said the President.

 


“The rapid application of Artificial Intelligence entails that we must adapt to the fast-changing world by capacitating ourselves, sector by sector, with the requisite digital proficiencies and capabilities.
“I, therefore, challenge you, our young people, to harness the transformative power of technology, innovate and unleash your enthusiasm as well as entrepreneurship skills towards creating wealth and job opportunities, while contributing to the growth of our economy.
“As your President, I am confident that you have the capacity to deliver, to be productive and to make our country a shining beacon.”
He said Zimbabwe’s future was in the hands of its young people.
The commemorations coincided with the launch of the Zimbabwe Digital Skills Development Programme, a collaborative initiative between Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Under the programme, 1,5 million young people will receive training in software engineering and development, as well as computer programming.
It is envisaged that the initiative will strengthening young people’s digital literacy while fostering technological innovation.
“This will enhance the employability of our young people, while empowering the youth and fostering economic growth,” he added.
“Furthermore, the programme encourages innovation and creativity as well as entrepreneurship through the development of local tech solutions and start-ups.
“This must enhance the country’s competitiveness in the global market.”
