Entrepreneurship Matters
Dr Kudzanai Vere
The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets. (Proverbs 22:13)
Nothing gets done until you decide to do it. The machine I am using to write this article and even the knowledge I am sharing with you were once in someone’s mind as an idea or concept, but there came a time when they decided to expose them in the market for the world to benefit.
They emerged out of the self and got visible on the marketplace. Any business exploits you have heard about were as a result of suppressing fear and procrastination. Fear robs people of their ingenuity, casting them into pits of slothfulness.
Once you are convinced about your business idea, strategy or project, proceed to implement it.
Peeping through the exit door will make you think there is a lion in the streets and yet it is just that laziness demon playing down your progress.
Proverbs 22:13 is an important verse for those who heed advice both at personal life level and business level
Challenge inertia
Anyone who has at least started something and continues to do it must be congratulated. We have a number of slothful people out there, who always think that they cannot do certain things due to various reasons they present.
Success comes as a result of many trials, failed or fruitful. Just give it a try. You cannot expect to be where you did not go.
If you want to be there, then make the necessary move. There has never been a perfect moment in life.
The lazy in mind are full of reasons. They passed with distinction in that area and graduated.
They present statements that will make you believe otherwise. Slothfulness will not take you anywhere.
They continue to say the same thing no matter how many times you ask them.
Their progress is packed in words and not in action. They build lasting businesses in their minds. They have these competitive strategies within their minds, which will never see the light of day, as they think there are lions in the streets.
Even if there are lions, can’t you devise a weapon to fight the lion? You want to die within. I am challenging everyone through this article to emerge regardless of circumstances. You will smoothen the road as you go. No road started off a perfect one. It was once bushy, rocky and dusty but through driving through it daily and a bit of some work on it, it become a perfect highway.
Emerge
In my first book, “Becoming a person of impact: The Six Pack Approach”, I spoke about emerging in a big way which is the third pack. To emerge is to come out or get out of and become visible. It entails moving out of self.
Making people know what you are made of. Don’t deprive the world of those products and services in your mind as ideas and concepts, get to a point of emergence. Release them out of that mental bondage even on bail as the world is waiting for them.
You can’t be where you want to go if you don’t really get up and go there. We know there are other players in the market that might cast some fears to starting that business you have envisaged for some time.
Let me remind you now, you are unique in your creation and you have every potential to differentiate your offering from the person next door.
You are only selling your services within your community and you are content with that and yet you don’t even need a passport to extend your operations in that neighbouring town. Do exploits. Emerge!
Don’t be apologetic on your emergency. People will inevitably talk about you in the streets, that’s visibility. No one benefits from a maize seed that has chosen to remain underground. It has to germinate and bear fruit after its own kind.
Enemies of emergence
Positive action and progress has many detractors but a resolute individual forges on regardless the impediments. A number of factors play against emergence and these comes in the form of laziness, fear, bad company and lack of knowledge.
Laziness
If you are lazy, you just want everything to be done on your behalf. You wonder how things happen and you are never part of the process. What you are good at is exactly what King Solomon says in this proverbs chapter that a slothful man saith.
Lazy people are good at story telling. They rarely rise up in action. Their laziness keeps them in bed while others toil in the fields.
Fear
What normally brings fear is the absence of knowledge. If you don’t know that there is no lion outside, you will remain locked in forever for fear of non existent things. Knowledge gives confidence and the power to surge forward. That is why we continue to encourage people to acquire as much information as possible in their areas of interest. You can venture into any business and run it successfully if you are grounded in business management skills.
Bad company
Who you wine and dine with ultimately determines who you will become in life. You just have to be choosey in terms of the people you spend your time with. There are those who are happy when they spend the day busy doing nothing and if such are your associates, then you will be far from realising your true self which can only come out on your emergence.
Lack of knowledge
There is every need to quality this statement as there are those with knowledge and yet they remain grounded. Knowledge is only power if it’s actioned upon. You might know what to do and how it is done but if you don’t eventually get to doing it, then you are no different. We have people who have studied a number of areas and yet they haven’t emerged. Indeed knowledge lays the foundation for emergence but one should then act upon such knowledge for it to be useful
Conclusion
Don’t over procrastinate in your personal life and business. Those who have made it in business is because they managed to take the first step. There is never going to be a perfect time where there are no impediments, you will perfect everything as you go. What you need to do is to just emerge and be known for what you do and not the names on our identity cards that doesn’t bring food on the table.
